The New York Rangers defeated the Washinton Capitals 4-2 to conclude the 2014-15 regular season. Below are the team issued postgame notes.
Team Notes
- TOP OF THE HEAP – With today’s win, the Rangers established single-season franchise records in wins (53) and points (113). Both single-season franchise records had been previously established in 1993-94 (52 wins and 112 points in 84 games).
- ROAD WARRIORS – The Rangers earned their 28th road win of the season, tying the record for the most road wins earned by an Eastern Conference team in one season in NHL history (New Jersey also recorded 28 road wins in 1998-99). New York’s 28 road wins are also tied for the second-most wins any NHL team has earned in one season in league history (Detroit – 31 in 2005-06). The Rangers won 10 of their final 11 regular season road games (10-1-0) and earned at least one point in 11 of their final 12 road contests (10-1-1). The Blueshirts won 15 of their final 18 road games (15-2-1), 17 of their final 22 road contests (17-4-1), 21 of their final 27 road games (21-5-1), and 24 of their final 32 road contests (25-6-1).
- POINT TAKEN – New York earned at least one point in 26 of its final 32 regular season games (23-6-3), including 16 of its final 21 games (15-5-1). The Blueshirts won 23 of their final 31 contests (23-6-2), including 19 of the final 26 games (19-6-1). The Rangers also recorded at least one point in 29 of their final 36 games (26-7-3). The Blueshirts won 46 of their final 64 games (46-15-3), including 44 of their final 61 games (44-14-3) and 42 of their final 57 contests (42-12-3). The Rangers earned at least one point in 59 of their final 78 games (52-19-7), including 52 of their last 68 games (47-16-5).
- ON POINT – Five different Rangers defensemen recorded at least 20 points in 2014-15 (Ryan McDonagh, Kevin Klein, Dan Girardi, Marc Staal, and Dan Boyle). It is the first time five Blueshirts defensemen have registered 20 or more points in one season since 1984-85.
- FOUR SCORE – The Rangers tallied four goals in a game for the 33rd time in 2014-15 (includes team goals awarded in a shootout win). It is the first time New York has registered four or more goals in a game 33 times in one season since 2005-06. The Blueshirts posted a 31-1-1 record when tallying at least four goals in a game in 2014-15, and they have posted a 117-1-2 record in the last 120 regular season games in which they have tallied four or more goals, dating back to Nov. 14, 2010.
- PERFECT 10! – For the second consecutive season, 10 different Rangers tallied at least 10 goals (Rick Nash, Martin St. Louis, Chris Kreider, Derick Brassard, Carl Hagelin, Derek Stepan, Kevin Hayes, Mats Zuccarello, J.T. Miller, and Dominic Moore).
- FIRST IN SCORE – The Rangers outscored the Capitals, 2-0, in the first period of today’s game. New York outscored its opponent, 13-4, in the first period in the final eight contests of the regular season and outscored its opponent, 84-54, in the first period in 2014-15. As of the conclusion of today’s game, the Rangers lead the NHL in first period goals and first period goal differential (plus-30) this season.
- LEADING THE WAY – New York posted a 41-6-3 record when tallying the first goal of the game in 2014-15. The Blueshirts also registered a 29-2-3 record in games which they led after the first period.
- FINISHING THE JOB – The Blueshirts posted a 36-0-1 record when leading after two periods this season. New York has registered a 150-1-9 record in its last 160 regular season games when leading after 40 minutes. The 160-game stretch began on Feb. 6, 2010 vs. New Jersey. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Rangers are the only NHL team since 1999-2000 (the first year when teams earned a point for a loss after regulation) to have no more than one regulation loss over a span of 160 or more regular season games when leading after two periods.
- POWER SURGE – New York was 1-for-4 (7:46) on the power play in the contest. The Blueshirts tallied a power play goal in four of their final seven contests of the regular season, and posted a 22-6-4 record in contests which they recorded a power play goal this season.

- Kevin Hayes tallied two points (one goal, one assist), recorded two shots on goal, and posted a plus-one rating in 16:51of ice time. He recorded 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in the final 13 games of the regular season and 27 points (10 goals, 17 assists) in the final 33 contests. Hayes finished the season ranked fifth on the Rangers in assists (28) and tied for fifth on the Rangers in goals (17).
- Martin St. Louis notched two assists, recorded five shots on goal, and posted a plus-two rating in 17:00 of ice time. The Rangers alternate captain extended his point streak against the Capitals to 11 games (eight goals, 10 assists over the span), and he has recorded a point in 13 of his last 14 contests against Washington (nine goals, 13 assists). He recorded a point in four of the final five games of the regular season, tallying five points (one goal, four assists) during the stretch.
- 30 FOR 30: Henrik Lundqvist made 22 saves to earn his 30th victory of the season. The Rangers’ all-time wins and shutouts leader has registered at least 30 wins in nine of his first 10 NHL seasons (including all nine seasons which were 82 games in length), becoming the first goalie in NHL history to accomplish the feat. Lundqvist is the fourth goalie in NHL history who has posted nine or more 30-win seasons in his career, joining Martin Brodeur (14), Patrick Roy (13), and Ed Belfour (nine) as the only goalies to do so. In his final six regular season appearances, Lundqvist posted a 5-1-0 record, along with a 1.99 GAA and a .933 SV%. He allowed two goals or fewer in five of those six appearances and in 29 of 46 appearances this season.
Blueshirt Breakdown
- Derick Brassard registered a power play goal and led all skaters with six shots on goal. With the goal, which was his 100th career NHL goal and 19th of the season, Brassard established a single-season career-high in goals and reached the 60-point plateau for the first time. He established career-highs in goals, assists (41), points (60), and power play assists (12), and tied his career-high in power play points (18) this season. Brassard led the team in assists, power play assists, and power play points, ranked second in points, tied for second in power play goals, and ranked fourth in goals in 2014-15.
- Dominic Moore recorded two points (one goal, one assist), including the game-winning goal, and posted a plus-two rating in the contest. Moore’s goal was his 10th of the season, marking the fourth time he has recorded at least 10 goals in one season in his NHL career. The tally was also Moore’s third game-winning goal of the season, which ties his career-high. He has registered at least 10 goals and more than 25 points in one season for the first time since 2010-11. Moore has notched a point in four of the last six games – including a goal in three of those contests – tallying six points (four goals, two assists) over the span. Moore was one of three Rangers who skated in all 82 regular season games in 2014-15. It is the second time he has played in all 82 games in one season in his career, and it is the first time he has done so since his rookie season with the Rangers in 2005-06.
- Jesper Fast registered a goal and recorded two shots on goal in 12:30 of ice time. Since Fast was recalled by the Blueshirts on Nov. 10, the team earned at least one point in 42 of 55 games in which he played (39-13-3 record).
- Ryan McDonagh tallied an assist, recorded three shots on goal, and posted a plus-two rating in a team-high 22:22 of ice time. The Rangers captain notched a point in six of the final eight games of the regular season, tallying eight points (one goal, seven assists) over the span. McDonagh led the Rangers in average ice time (23:07), and he led all Rangers defensemen in assists (25), points (33), power play assists (nine), power play points (12), shorthanded assists (three), shorthanded points (three), and shots on goal (148) in 2014-15.
- Dan Boyle recorded a power play assist and was credited with two blocked shots in 21:51 of ice time. Boyle’s assist was his 20th point of the season, and he has tallied at least 20 points in 14 consecutive seasons (dating back to 2000-01). Boyle is the only NHL defenseman who has recorded at least 20 points in each of the last 14 seasons.
- Tanner Glass notched an assist, led the Rangers with three hits, was credited with two blocked shots, and posted a plus-one rating in 11:41 of ice time. Glass ranked second on the Rangers – and first among all team forwards – in hits (213) this season.
- Keith Yandle recorded three shots on goal in 22:05 of ice time while skating in his 84th game of the season. Yandle is the eighth NHL player who has skated in 84 or more games in one season since 1995-96.
- Dan Girardi registered three shots on goal, recorded two hits, was credited with two blocked shots, and posted a plus-two rating in 19:24 of ice time. The Rangers alternate captain was one of three Rangers who skated in all 82 games this season. Girardi is now tied with Brian Leetch for the most seasons in which a Ranger has played all 82 games since the NHL adopted an 82-game schedule in 1995-96 (five). Girardi led the Rangers in hits (224), blocked shots (184), and overall ice time (1,860:45) this season.
