Countdown to Mets Fantasy Camp 13 Days to Go.
Every year for the last 3 years as Spring gives way to Fall, Mets season merges into NY Rangers season, I have been able to keep the baseball side of my brain occupied with thoughts of Mets Fantasy Camp. This year more so then ever, in the past I have simply gone down to cover the week long camp as a reporter, this season I am headed down to actually participate as a player. Each year I have tried to find unique ways of counting down the days until camp and sharing them with Mets fans, So this year I will do the countdown by Jersey numbers, When possible I will post my 3 favorite Mets who have worn that number, some numbers are harder then others.

#1
Edgardo Alfonzo
Fonzie was a great player in his prime, he did everything well. His career ended too soon due to back issues. One of the great home-grown Mets.Just an indication of how his career ended prematurely he is nine months younger than current Met Bartolo Colon .Edgardo could be counted on for clutch hits, spectacular plays at both 2nd and 3rd, and was one of the most underrated players in baseball during his career. Probably the best Mets player ever at 2nd overall. Here is my interview with Edgardo from WLIE 540am SPORTSTALKNY.
#2
Neil Allen
A relief pitcher in the goofy mold of Tug McGraw,Neil always had a smile on his face,he started a ritual that when he would come into a game he would throw his first warm-up pitch over the catcher's head to the backstop. He was a very good reliever on some very bad Met teams and led the team in saves for 3 straight seasons. Here is an early interview I did with Neil Allen from the 80's
#3
Billy Wagner
One of the few Free Agent closers that the Mets signed that lived up to expectations. He responded to his big contract with a huge 2006 season: 2.24 ERA, 40 saves, and 94 strikeouts in 72.1 innings. It truly was amazing Billy generate 100 mph fastballs from his 5-11 200 pound frame. It would eventually take a toll on him as after 2 plus season elbow problems ended his Met season too soon.
