Countdown to Mets Fantasy Camp 21 Days to Go.

Every year for the last 3 years as Spring gives way to Fall, Mets season merges into NY Rangers season, I have been able to keep the baseball side of my brain occupied with thoughts of Mets Fantasy Camp. This year more so then ever, in the past I have simply gone down to cover the week long camp as a reporter, this season I am headed down to actually participate as a player. Each year I have tried to find unique ways of counting down the days until camp and sharing them with Mets fans, So this year I will do the countdown by Jersey numbers, When possible I will post my 3 favorite Mets who have worn that number, some numbers are harder then others.

Cleon Jones

Whenever I hear Cleon's name I smile, because I instantly flashback to the first memory of what total exhilaration felt like for the first time, I was 9 years old at Shea stadium on October 16th 1969 when Davey Johnson flied out to Cleon Jones to end the 1969 World Series, I can still see him kneeling down and making sure he held onto the ball for the third out, and just like that I witnessed my first championship as a fan of any team, you always remember your first.

Carlos Delgado

Acquired by the Mets from the Florida Marlins in exchange for Mike Jacobs, Yusmiero Petit and Grant Psomas on November 24, 2005, Carlos had an immediate impact, hitting 38 homeruns and 114 RBis in his first season, after 3 productive seasons Carlos's career ended due to a hip injury, but for thise 3 seasons he was as feared a hitter as there ever was in a Mets Lineup.

Lucas Duda

Without much fanfare and despite pressure to preform after the trade of Ike Davis, Lucas finally lived up to his potential.after playing his first four seasons out of position in the outfield Lucas finally assumed the first base position this season and provided the Mets with much needed power from one of the corner positions, ending the season with 30 home runs, Hopefully this was a sign of good things to come from Lucas, as he will be counted on to repeat those numbers again this season.
