Countdown to Mets Fantasy Camp 25 Days to Go.
#25
#1
Willie Montanez
Without a doubt one of my favorite all-time Mets, Willie didn't put up huge stats with the Mets, but he was the coolest guy to ever wear the Blue and Orange. The snatch grab and first base, the home run trot, Willie was cool before ESPN Sportscenter existed. He only hit 22 homers as a Met, but I'm sure anyone who watched the Mets in 1978 and 1979 remembered each and everyone of them. While the Mets gave up Jon Matlack who went on to win 15 games and pitch to a 2.27 ERA, Met fans never held that against Willie as he was a fan favorite.
#2
Danny Heep
Yes the Mets blew this trade, giving the Astros Mike Scott to get Danny, but he was the perfect 4th outfielder, and pinch hitter off the bench, 4 Pinch Hitter dingers in 1983, plus whenever he did hit a homer or made a great catch he would make Espn's Sportscenter so Chris Berman could call him Danny"Uriah"Heep.
#3
Pedro Feliciano
By the time the Mets got finished with Pedro I think he could tie his shoes with his left hand without bending down. He appeared in 484 games as a Met and for 3 years in a row almost 90 games each season. While some Met fans might hold the fact that he signed with the Yankees as a free agent, you have to love the fact that he never threw one pitch in pinstripes. He was one of the few guys in the pen that you never seemed to worry about, he would come in get outs and keep the game close and Pedro did that on a consistent basis.
