Countdown to Mets Fantasy Camp 27 Days to Go.
#27
#1
Dennis Cook
Dennis would have been perfect on the 1986 Mets, he was so intense. He and Turk were the back bone of the Mets Pen for 3 seasons, Cook was a work horse and appeared in 255 games over 4 seasons with the Mets, going 25-13 and earning 6 saves, my favorite Dennis Cook game was May 22, 1998 vs the Brewers. Cook comes in the top of the 8th in relief of Rick Reed the Mets are winning 3-2. Cook gives up a lead off walk to pinch hitter Marquis Grissom to start the 8th, Fernando Vina then singles and now it 1st and 2nd and no outs. Cook picks of Grissom at 2b, and then a pitch later he picks Vina off at first.
#2
Carlos Gomez
Another one that got away, yes the Mets got Johan in the trade that sent Carlos to the Twins, along with with Philip Humber, Kevin Mulvey and Deolis Guerra, but I would have loved to see an outfield of Lagares, Gomez and Grandy for a few years, that would have been something special. Gomez showed flashes of the player he would become in some of those 58 Games he spent as a Met. I hope the Mets have learned their lesson and let Lagares blossom into a superstar, like Gomez has for the Brewers.
#3
Jeurys Familia
Hard to believe but sometime in April Jeurys will pitch in his 100th game as a Met, he took a huge step forward last season appearing in 76 games, he had 5 saves and pitched to a 2.21 era, he will be a huge part of the Mets bullpen this coming season.
