Countdown to Mets Fantasy Camp 39 Days to Go.
#39
#1
Gary Gentry
Pitched the first Mets division clincher in their history September 24th 1969 a complete game 4 hit 2 walk 5 strikeout 6-0 win vs the CardinalsThe Mets also won every post game he ever pitched in for them. He also started the first World Series game in the History of Shea Stadium, holding the Mighty O's scoreless through 6 2/3.
#2
Dick Selma
Not Really sure why Selma is #2 on my list but for some reason he and Don Cardwell always had pretty cool baseball cards.
Selma was the only pitcher (300 innings+) who left the Mets before 1969 with an ERA for his Mets career under 4.00. He and Tom Seaver were High School Teammates.
#3
Doug Sisk
Talk about the Rolaids Relief award, Doug Risk I mean Sisk probably made Rolaids stock soar, he would walk the bases loaded and some how get out of the jam. My favorite Doug Sisk game though has to be opening day 1983 Tom Seaver's return, Seaver vs Carlton, Seaver throws 6 shutout innings matching Carlton, Wally Backman pinch hits for Seaver in the bottom of the 6th, Sisk comes on pitches the 7th the Mets put a 2 spot against lefty, Sisk shuts the door and the Mets win Opening day April 5th 1983 2-0.
