Countdown to Mets Fantasy Camp 47 Days to Go.

Every year for the last 3 years as Spring gives way to Fall, Mets season merges into NY Rangers season, I have been able to keep the baseball side of my brain occupied with thoughts of Mets Fantasy Camp. This year more so then ever, in the past I have simply gone down to cover the week long camp as a reporter, this season I am headed down to actually participate as a player. Each year I have tried to find unique ways of counting down the days until camp and sharing them with Mets fans, So this year I will do the countdown by Jersey numbers, When possible I will post my 3 favorite Mets who have worn that number, some numbers are harder then others.

#1 Jesse Orosco

There are so many reasons why Jesse is my favorite #47, first and foremost he was the first (and only) relief pitcher to get three wins in one playoff series . He also was the strongest link to both NY Mets Championship teams as in 1969 Jerry Koosman who wore #47 in his first year as a Met, was on the mound for the last out of the 1969 World Series was traded to Minnesota in the deal that brought Jesse to New York.

#2 Charlie WIlliams

So the reason for this should be obvious, this 47 got us 24, until Jack Bauer the only 24 that mattered, yes Willie Mays was way past his prime, but he was the biggest link from my dads favorite team the NY Giants, and we got to enjoy Willie as a Met together.

#3 Joe McEwing

Was torn here, really wanted to put Tom Glavine in this spot, but no matter how good he pitched as a Met, that awful inning against the Marlins, and all those years with the Braves made it impossible for me to pick him ahead of Super Joe. His energy, hustle and obvious love for the game was infectious. Interestingly enough Joe was traded to the Mets for Jesse Orosco.

Mets who wore #47:

Jay Hook

Tom Sturdivant

Darrell Sutherland

Mardie Cornejo

Jesse Orosco

Wally Whitehurst

Mike Draper

Jason Jacome

Reid Cornelius

Derek Wallace

Joe McEwing

Tom Glavine

Casey Fossum

Hisanori Takahashi

Miguel Batista

Aaron Laffey

Andrew Brown

José Valverde
