Countdown to Mets Fantasy Camp 51,50,49 Days to Go.

Every year for the last 3 years as Spring gives way to Fall, Mets season merges into NY Rangers season, I have been able to keep the baseball side of my brain occupied with thoughts of Mets Fantasy Camp. This year more so then ever, in the past I have simply gone down to cover the week long camp as a reporter, this season I am headed down to actually participate as a player. Each year I have tried to find unique ways of counting down the days until camp and sharing them with Mets fans, So this year I will do the countdown by Jersey numbers, When possible I will post my 3 favorite Mets who have worn that number, some numbers are harder then others

A few Mets have used 51 as in interim number such as Lance Johnson and Mookie Wilson, I don't consider them true 51's, After looking at the list of some very forgettable and regrettable Mets I have to go with Rick Peterson as my favorite # 51, he is one of the most iintelligent pitching coaches in the business .

#50 Finally a Number worthy of 3 picks:

2 from NY Met World series teams no less,

#1 Sid Fernandez, El Sid was part of such a great staff that he sometimes is overlooked at how good a Met he truly was. Sid was a 10 year Met who fell 2 games short of 100 wins as a Met. His relief outtng in game 7 of the 1986 World Series as a huge key to that game.

#2 Benny Agbayani

You have to love the only Met in history to hit a home run prior to 6 am in the morning.

Benny was the prototypical Bobby V player.

#3 Rafael Montero

Makes the list because he represents what the Mets can be going forward,

#1 Ed Hearn 1986 Champ enough said !

#2 Walt Terrell Was on both ends of great Met Trades, Him and Darling for an aging Lee Mazzilli and Then Straight up for Hojo.

#3 Kevin Kobel part of some really awful Met Teams, but a guy who in his first 2 years pitched really well much better then his 11-14 record over those first 2 years would indicate.
